About the numbers

Scripture counts things on purpose

The Bible is not shy about numbers. Seven runs through creation and through Revelation as a mark of completion. Twelve gathers the tribes and later the apostles. Forty measures the flood, the wilderness, and the Lord’s own testing. Three carries a sense of fullness, eight of new beginnings, fifty of release and jubilee. Christians have noticed this for a very long time, and studying it is an ordinary part of reading Scripture attentively.

Hebrew letters were also numerals

This is a plain fact of the languages the Bible was written in. Hebrew and Greek both used their letters as numerals, so a written name carried a numeric texture as a simple consequence of the alphabet. We use that historical system to give each name a set of values, and those values shape which themes and which passages a blessing leans on.

We are open about the mechanism because a hidden mechanism would be a reason not to trust us.

What we claim

• The patterns are a lens for reflection. They give us a starting place for what to write about and which Scriptures to bring you.
• They are worth praying over. A theme that keeps surfacing is worth sitting with, in the same way a recurring thought in your quiet time is worth sitting with.
• Everything the pattern suggests is tested against Scripture, and Scripture is what actually carries the weight.

What we do not claim

• We do not predict anything. Not your future, not your outcomes, not your decisions. If you ever read something here that sounds like a forecast, we have failed and we want to know.
• We do not believe your life is decided by arithmetic. God is not bound by a calculation, and neither are you.
• We do not treat these patterns as hidden knowledge or as a secret system. There is nothing here you cannot see, and nothing you need us in order to reach God through.
• Your birth date matters to us the way a birthday matters to a family. It is a day we know about you, and it is nothing more than that.

A word about eleven, twenty-two, and thirty-three

Some traditions treat these as specially charged, with vocabulary we do not use. We keep them as distinct entries because the arithmetic keeps them distinct, and we write about them the way we write about every other number: eleven with a sense of transition and watchfulness, twenty two with a sense of pattern brought to fullness, thirty three with restraint and reverence, because it is the traditional count of the years of Christ’s earthly life and that is not ours to be clever about.

If this still troubles you

Then trust your conscience and leave it. Paul was unbothered about letting believers hold different convictions on disputable things, and we are unbothered too. Nothing in this app is something you need. The Bible is on your shelf, prayer is free, and your church is down the road. Those were always the point, and this was only ever meant to stand beside them.
